ปัจจุบันวัสดุที่เอาไว้ติดตั้งกันสาด มีให้เลือกใช้งานหลากหลายประเภทด้วยกัน ซึ่งแต่ละประเภทก็จะมีคุณสมบัติ และคุณภาพที่แตกต่างกันออกไป แต่สำหรับ วัสดุที่นิยมใช้ทำ กันสาดที่จอดรถ จะมีทั้งหมด 4 วัสดุด้วยกัน ดังนี้

• ไฟเบอร์กลาส

ไฟเบอร์กลาส หนึ่งในวัสดุที่นิยมนำมาต่อเติมกันสาด และมุงหลังคามากที่สุด เพราะวัสดุชนิดนี้ผลิตมาจากเรซินผสานด้วยเส้นใยไฟเบอร์กลาส ทำให้วัสดุมีความแข็งแรง และมีความยืดหยุ่นสูง สามารถดัดโค้งได้ตามรูปทรงที่ต้องการ

นอกจากนี้ ไฟเบอร์กลาสยังเป็นวัสดุที่มีคุณสมบัติที่โดดเด่น และมีความพิเศษกว่าวัสดุประเภทอื่น ๆ ตรงที่ไฟเบอร์กลาสเป็นวัสดุโปร่งแสงที่สามารถให้แสงส่องผ่านถึงในบริเวณที่ติดตั้ง แถมยังสามารถป้องกันความร้อน ป้องกันแสงแดด สะท้อนรังสี UV และยังป้องกันลมฝนได้เป็นอย่างดีอีกด้วย ทำให้เมื่อติดตั้งแล้ว จะทำให้โรงจอดรถเย็นสบาย มีความปลอดโปร่ง ไม่ร้อนอบอ้าว สามารถจอดรถ หรือทำกิจกรรมได้อย่างจุใจ
 

• ไวนิล

ไวนิล วัสดุที่นิยมติดตั้งกันสาดที่จอดรถรองลงมาจากไฟเบอร์กลาส ซึ่งไวนิลจะเป็นวัสดุที่มีความคล้ายคลึงกับไฟเบอร์กลาส แต่จะไม่เหมือนกัน 100% เพราะไวนิลจะผลิตมาจากพลาสติก PVC ทำให้วัสดุมีความแข็งแรง แต่ทนทานไม่เท่าไฟเบอร์กลาส และยังไม่สามารถป้องกันความร้อน และสะท้อนรังสี UV ได้ดีเท่าไฟเบอร์กลาส

แต่ไวนิลก็จะมีคุณสมบัติที่พิเศษของตัวมันเอง ตรงที่เป็นวัสดุที่สามารถกันเสียงรบกวนจากภายนอกได้อย่างดีเยี่ยม แต่ข้อเสียคือราคาสูง และเมื่อใช้งานไปนาน ๆ หรือถูกแสงแดดแรงมาก ๆ วัสดุก็จะเกิดการขยายตัว และเกิดการชำรุดได้ในที่สุด

• โพลีคาร์บอเนต

โพลีคาร์บอเนต วัสดุที่นิยมติดตั้งกันสาดโรงจอดรถที่มีน้ำหนักเบา และมีความยืดหยุ่นสูง เนื่องจากผลิตมาจากเม็ดพลาสติกคุณภาพดีที่นำไปขึ้นรูปให้มีลักษณะความโปร่งใสคล้ายกับกระจก แต่จะมีความแข็งแรง และมีความคงทนกว่ากระจกทั่วไปที่เราพบเห็น

อีกทั้งยังสามารถทนต่อแรงกระแทกได้ดี จึงเหมาะสำหรับติดตั้งเป็นกันสาดโรงจอดรถ เพราะนอกจากจะเด่นในเรื่องของคุณสมบัติความแข็งแรงแล้ว ยังสามารถป้องกันความร้อน สะท้อนรังสี UV ได้ดี แถมยังไม่ก่อให้เกิดคราบสกปรก หรือขี้ตะไคร่บนวัสดุอีกด้วย แต่สำหรับกันสาดโพลีคาร์บอเนตจะมีข้อเสียตรงที่จะเกิดเสียงดังรบกวนเมื่อฝนตกหนัก ทำให้เกิดความรำคาญได้
 

• เมทัลชีท

เมทัลชีท วัสดุชนิดสุดท้ายที่ไม่ได้พบเห็นสำหรับติดตั้งกันสาดโรงจอดรถมากนักเหมือนวัสดุประเภทอื่น ๆ แต่ก็เป็นวัสดุที่หลายคนนิยมใช้งานเหมือนกัน เพราะด้วยความที่เมทัลชีทผลิตมาจากเหล็ก โลหะ ผสมอะลูมิเนียม และสังกะสี เคลือบด้วยสารป้องกันสนิม ทำให้วัสดุมีความแข็งแรงทนทาน สามารถป้องกันความร้อนได้ในระดับหนึ่ง แต่ไม่สามารถกักเก็บความร้อนในวัสดุได้ ทำให้บริเวณโรงจอดรถมีอากาศที่ค่อนข้างร้อนอบอ้าว และเมื่อใช้งานไปนาน ๆ ก็อาจเกิดคราบสกปรก หรือวัสดุมีสนิมเกาะได้
